Action and the decision to take action are core expectations of learning in the Primary Years Programme (PYP).  The PYP encourages students to initiate action in response to and as part of their inquiries.

These may take a variety of forms such as:

  • a change in attitude
  • a plan of action for the future
  • demonstration of responsibility for self, others and the environment
  • commitment to join an advocacy group
  • engaging in school or community decision making

The PYP encourages opportunities to experience service actions as part of an inquiry are some of the ways we encourage students to participate in service and experience the impact of action.

IB learners strive to be caring members of the community who demonstrate a commitment to service, making a positive difference to the environment and lives of others.

Service and action is an integral part of the MYP and DP with the aim that students:

  • become more aware of their own strengths and areas for growth
  • undertake challenges that develop new skills
  • discuss, evaluate and plan student-initiated activities
  • persevere in action
  • work collaboratively with others
  • develop international-mindedness through global engagement, multilingualism and intercultural understanding
  • consider the ethical implications of their actions.
