At the International School of Uganda (ISU) we offer four graduation pathways: The IB Diploma, The IB-Enriched ISU HIgh School Diploma, The ISU High School Diploma, and the ISU Individualised Diploma. The school supports all students in their chosen pathway, ensuring it is right for their own personal development and future goals. This all depends on the student’s interest, learning style and post-secondary aspirations.
ISU Graduation Pathways
- All students at ISU who fulfil the ISU Diploma Requirements will graduate with an ISU High School Diploma, which is equivalent to an American High School Diploma.
- ISU is accredited by both the Council of International Schools and the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges and fulfils eligibility requirements to study at US, UK, Canadian and most other universities around the world.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) is for students aged 16-19. The IB Diploma Programme aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.

The IB Diploma Programme curriculum is made up of six subject groups and three core elements.
The six subject groups are:
- Studies in language and literature
- Language acquisition
- Individuals and societies
- Sciences
- Mathematics
- The arts
The three core elements are:
- Theory of knowledge -in which students reflect on the nature of knowledge and on how we know what we claim to know.
- The extended essay - which is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper.
- Creativity, activity, service - in which students complete a project related to those three concepts.
The High School Diploma is equivalent to a US High School Diploma. It offers greater flexibility in subject choices, depth of study and type of examination (external/internal). Students are required to be enrolled with a full timetable in Grades 9-12.

- Students can choose to study their selected course(s) as IBDP Courses and receive individual subject certificates from the IB at the end of the 2-year course.
- An IB Diploma Course candidate can choose which IB subjects to pursue and at what level: Higher Level or Standard Level. IB Diploma Courses are assessed externally by the International Baccalaureate, independently of the ISU High School Diploma.
- High School Diploma candidates are not required to do the Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge course which increases independent study time in their schedule.
- In addition, students can choose to study an independent elective course which is not offered as a DP course (e.g. coding, fashion design) which is related to their post-secondary aspirations and interests.
This diploma provides an opportunity for students in our Learning Support programme to develop their potential and independence through personalised targets documented in their Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Transition Plans.
