Today was the first in our new four-part series on belonging. 

This first session began with the idea of Learn and how through learning we build a sense of belonging.

The session began with a conversation about belonging and was prompted by the following video:

The counselors and principals then shared a number of ways in which we understand belonging at ISU and how we support it through our advisory programmes in both Junior and Senior School.  One tool that we are using to support belonging in Senior School is Second Step which includes the following quote about the importance of belonging:

Learning about ourselves and about each other is key part of our advisory programme and so we encourage parents and students to engage in opportunities to learn about our school through our Why Sheets and Blog Posts.  We also want to learn about our families, their experiences and

The session also explored how through the profile of the student, educator and parent we can build a sense of belonging by learning, connecting and contributing to our community.  The profile of the parent was also unpacked further:

At the end of session there were five breakout sessions to allow parents a deeper dive into the ideas of Transition in both Junior and Senior School, Understanding Uganda and our context and exploring the idea of DEIJ and belonging, and the PCA were also available to share more about their work and how to get involved.
